Summary and Critique of a book written by Doug Matthews, entitled “Special Event Production, The Process”

Summary:

A book written by Doug Matthews, entitled “Special Event Production, The Process” is a comprehensive guide for events and special event production. This book studies the behind the scenes of a special event production. This guide provides an extend study of the fundamentals of budgeting and contracting details. Moreover, it helps developing team management and analyses administrative interests by explaining from planning through technical show direction. In fact, it supports an easy way of learning using full-color pictures, graphs, checklists, glossaries, schedules, and production challenges.

“Special Event Production, The Process” is part of a set of two books; also available “Special Event Production, The Resources”. This book is a great guide that uses a lot of graphics, use formulas tables, images, and real-life stories. Moreover, it helps preparing the production budget, managing cash flows, budget layouts, and other financial considerations.

               Critique:

It is my preliminary belief that this book has more positive aspects than negatives ones. A well-structured introduction, and very good points of interest for any event planner are found in this book. In addition, “Special Event Production, The Process” based their theories on the author Doug Matthew who has over 20 years of experience in special event production. It looks to have a very structured scheme to guide the reader through, definitions, legal, financial, organization, team working, contracting fact to be considered while organizing an event. The idea of giving to the book interesting tools to develop criteria and real-life stories its very well formulated with a lot of graphics, full-color pictures, checklist and others. However, readers should be aware that this book is a compilation of two that more material is cover in the “Special Event Production, The Resources”. This is a credible and valuable book because it is based on tangible results and covers many important aspects that I did not recognize prior to reading part of it.
